Social connection - Museo de Pontevedra
Social connection
The Museum of Pontevedra works on continuously improving the services it provides and on developing educational programmes aimed at a wide range of audiences, with tours designed to meet the needs of different groups, including the elderly, people with cognitive impairment, sensory and intellectual disabilities or mental health disorders, individuals deprived of their freedom, migrants, etc.
Several institutions and associations have helped us to create and design adapted activities and materials, such as the Spanish National Organisation for the Blind (ONCE, by its acronym in Spanish); Amencer-Aspace; the Asociación Virgen de la O; the Red Cross; and the Galician Federation of Associations of Deaf People (FAXPG, by its acronym in Galician).
We have replicas of some of our works so that visually impaired people can experience art and history through touching. We also offer guided tours with a Spanish sign language interpreter and promote activities so that people with mental health disorders can participate in the world of culture.
Some of the projects we are developing in 2026 are the ‘Acompañarte’ (Accompanying you) programme – carried out in collaboration with the Galician Health Service (Sergas) –, which offers patients in the psychiatric department the opportunity to visit the Museum and work with art as a therapeutic and curative tool; and ‘Museo singular, mirada plural’ (Unique museum, plural perspective), a creative experience in which people with special needs recreate artworks of the Museum’s collection to give them social visibility.
In 2026, we will begin collaborating with the ‘Empower Parents’ project, which seeks to make museums and cultural institutions accessible and inclusive places for people with an autism spectrum disorder.
